FAQ

Our Answers

Every day counts and the optimum length of a spa therapy is 21 days. This has been proved not only by research studies but also by several hundred years of experience in this type of therapy. You can also take a shorter therapy course, but staying less than 14 days considerably reduces the effectiveness of the treatment.

Karlovy Vary spa therapies focus on digestive tract disorders, metabolic disorders, mobility apparatus disorders, neural problems and oncologic diseases.

DIGESTIVE TRACT DISORDERS

Stomach and duodenum ulcers, intestinal disorders, conditions after intestine, stomach and gall bladder operations, chronic liver, gall bladder, pancreas and intestine diseases, METABOLIC DISEASES diabetes mellitus, obesity, fat metabolism disorders, gout

MOBILITY APPARATUS DISORDERS

Degenerative diseases of the spine and big joints

ONCOLOGIC DISEASES

Stomach, large intestine, recto-sigmoid, rectum, anus, breast carcinoma (following complex tumour therapy without clinical signs of tumour activity)

NEURAL DISEASES

Polyneuropathy, root syndrome with irritation–demise syndrome, inflammatory disease of the central nerve system, multiple sclerosis in remission, neuro-muscular disorders, syringomyelia, children cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s disease.

If you take with you your medical documentation from your attending physician describing the progress and therapy of your disease, you will help the spa doctor prepare your therapeutic plan.  It is not mandatory, however.  The most important thing is to bring a sufficient stock of medicines that you take regularly, enough to last for your whole stay in the spa.

Karlovy Vary spa therapies may be prescribed for children, too. In the case of children under 15, however, the preparation of a therapy plan by the spa doctor must be preceded by an examination by a contracted paediatric specialist. Our spa only provides therapies to self-payers, i.e. our therapies are not covered by health insurance in the Czech Republic. The therapeutic programme focuses on digestive tract and metabolic disorders.

Yes, you can buy a procedure without being our guest, but only if there is free capacity at the balneo centre. Our clients receive priority when scheduling our procedures. Our receptionist at the Kriváň Sanatorium will inform you about over-the-counter procedures and procedures limited to medical prescription. The procedures you want to take should always be consulted with a doctor, as every procedure may have contraindications.

You can take all-inclusive or breakfast and dinner catering service from Bohemia-Spa, depending on the selected therapeutic programme. The diet offered to spa guests is controlled by dietary specialists and nutritional therapists who prepare several types of diets. The spa chefs make sure the meals taste great and the selection within each diet type is very broad.

The structure of the drink therapy is prescribed by the spa doctor. You will receive a detailed list of all springs you should use and information about the times and quantities of the drinks. The DRINK THERAPY is the most important part of the Karlovy Vary spa therapeutic programmes. There are 12 mineral springs in Karlovy Vary, differing in temperature and gaseous carbon dioxide levels. The temperature of the springs ranges between 43˚C and 72˚C and the spring water is only taken on the basis of medical prescription. The drinks are to be taken before meals. Thermal water is drunk slowly, by sips, ideally on a walk, with a 2dl cup to be drunk for 3 – 10 minutes. A break of 5 – 10 minutes is recommended between the individual cups. Karlovy Vary mineral springs contain 47 elements needed by the organism with proven positive effects on the whole digestive tract, metabolism, periodontal diseases, overall health improvement and increase of immunity against the effects of genetic disorders and the burdens of modern life.

You do not select the procedures yourself. The spa doctor will examine your health condition at a screening visit and will specify the ideal procedure for you in an individual therapeutic plan. The spa doctors’ extensive experience allows them to prepare an ideal programme that maximises the therapeutic effect. You can also extend the programme with a range of procedures from our offer, either over-the-counter or on your doctor’s recommendation. Our company currently offers 45 therapeutic and wellness procedures.

The advantage of a spa visit over a holiday by the sea is that for a comparable or lower price you get not only meals and accommodation, but also a high standard of medical care, including at least three procedures per day, medical examinations, and 24-hour emergency care provided by nurses and physicians. Also travel times are not that long and you don’t have to deal with acclimatisation and the risks connected with inappropriate meals or poor-quality accommodation. This is not to say that a holiday by the sea has no benefit. If you do not suffer from any illness you should alternate between these two types of holidays.

Guests usually opt for comfortable athletic and casual wear for their spa stay and activities between procedures. Spa restaurants should be visited in ordinary decent dress. Men should take their meals dressed in long trousers. Leisure time dress must be adapted to the season and the weather.

As we are a three-star spa hotel we do not offer laundry service. The hotel receptionist will recommend you the nearest drycleaners or express drycleaners in the city centre within a 15-minute walk from the hotel.

The booked room will be ready for you after 2:00 p.m. In the case of earlier arrival you can book your screening with the nurses. Then you can have lunch if you have ordered an all-inclusive stay. Your room will be ready for you at 2:00 p.m.

The pool is a part of the Wellness & Spa centre, which also offers spa treatments. Swimming and pool exercises can be prescribed as a medical procedure. At that time, however, the sauna area is not available to guests. Medical treatments take place from 7.00 to 15.30 pm. Free entry to the Wellness & Spa centre is possible from 16.00 to 21.00 pm. Last admission to the pool is at 20:00 o’clock.  The entrance fee to the pool is 90, – CZK per hour. Season ticket for 60 min. including the access to the saunas (minimum of 5 entrances) costs 75, – CZK / hour. In the Wellness & Spa centre you can purchase the relaxing procedures – aroma massage, hot stone massage, anti-cellulite massage, bamboo sticks massage, foot reflexology massage. The procedure takes 50 minutes and each is 650, – CZK.

Yes, our company has a bus for 31 persons, minibus for 16 persons, and several minibuses or private cars. The transport from airport locations or from home is very convenient and fast. You do not have to wonder if your means of transport  will be delayed or how you will transport your luggage. On request we come anywhere and pick you up. The spa is by no means exclusively reserved for patients with diseases. Bohemia-Spa has prepared conditions for family visits, including children. Parents also have the right to rest and recreation. These are some of the reasons why to choose us for your family holiday:

Even though the hotels are situated right in the city centre, the green Dvořák Parks are just a few minutes’ walk away.
We have prepared a fully equipped children’s corner with an outdoor playground in the Atrium of the Slovan Hotel. The gym of the Kriváň Sanatorium offers table tennis and you can borrow board games or petanque at the reception desk or play billiards in the community room of the Slovan Hotel.  The Motýlek (Butterfly) children’s corner is equipped with toys for boys and girls, and a TV programme for children in Czech and in German.
All visitors can use the hotel pool (which features a waterspout and backflow) as well as the hotel’s fitness centre. At Christmas and New Year’s Eve we offer animated programmes (sports afternoons for children, creative workshops, quizzes, etc.).
The restaurants provide highchairs, children’s cutlery, plates, mats and bibs. We will prepare a children’s menu on request.
The hotel offers several suites with separated space for children and a mini kitchenette. If you find the suite too big, you can ask for a room with a kitchenette. If there is one free we will be happy to accommodate you in it.
Near the hotel, in the shopping part of the city, there are several shops where you can buy children’s food, cosmetics, diapers, etc.
Upon request we can offer cribs for the smallest children, as well as baby linen, changing tables, potties, toilet seats for older children, stools under the washbasin, baby monitors (Baby-Phon), bottle heaters, bathtubs for babies and strollers. We also provide babysitting service on request.
